How can we redefine notions and practices of hospitality opposite narratives that stigmatise migration and perpetuate stereotypes of the African continent? The encounter A Bridge, An Amulet, a Shared Table seeks to expand these imaginaries through the experience and knowledge of women from Mali, Senegal and Mauritania who advocate for art and culture as tools of equality and autonomy. Across different activities, these sessions feature the participation of Mamá Koné, Ndèye Mané Toure and Oumou Kane, coordinators of local initiatives from the Africana Lab network of feminist citizen laboratories, a programme propelled by the Spanish Agency for Development Cooperation (AECID) and coordinated by GRIGRI. Conceived as a space of exchange and the collective construction of knowledge, the programme comprises a collaborative creation workshop, discussions, a documentary screening and a community meal, seeking to foster learning situated from practice and directly involving migrants and local women in a collaborative process around hospitality in the city of Madrid. With a format inspired by the previous Grigri Pixel workshops, the collaborative creation workshop draws from the materials and collective reflections developed in the international encounter Inclusive Policies and Practices, held in June this year in the Museo Reina Sofía, as well as work developed between Malí, Mauritania and Senegal, inside the Africana Lab framework. Therefore, the aim is to keep driving forward spaces to exchange democratic practices with a focus on cultural rights between Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa, giving prominence to local flavours and community experiences from mutual, horizontal, feminist and transformative practices. The initiative is developed inside the framework of the tenth anniversary of the GRIGRI Pixel project.
